One of the truly memorable days in my life was September 29th 1998. After a period of 32 years, and four agonizing loses in finals, Galway footballers succeeded in beating Kildare, to win the All Ireland. Although there is never any one reason that contributes to high performance, a significant reason for this victory was the appointment that year of John O’Mahoney as manager and trainer.
Those that know him would say he:
Knew his stuff
Had a particular way of getting it across
Believed that mental exercise was equal in importance to physical exercise
